Children's Village

Village
Mutende Childrens Village provides a home for orphaned and vulnerable children. It offers opportunities for orphans and abandoned children to be cared for in a loving, family environment. There are currently 3 houses on the site and administration offices. The children are cared for by 3 mothers who are themselves widowed.

In 2017 there are 33 children aged between 5 and 18 years old.

The village is a safe enclosed area with plenty of room for play. There is a garden, chicken houses, football pitch, playground area and basketball pitch. When the children are not out at school there is plenty of noise and fun at Mutende Children’s Village!

Meet the Children

In April 2017 there are 33 children in the Mutende Children’s Village.

The children live as a large family, taking care of the younger children, sharing the housework and sharing whatever they have with each other. Six new children joined the family this year and have settled in really well. They are aged 6 to 9 years old.

All the boys love to play football but they are also very keen on baking.

The older girls have a sewing machine and after some training, they are very good at alterations and doing the many repairs that 33 children create on a daily basis. This skill is one that will be useful in their adult life.

Youth Facility

Youth Facility

Not all Mutende children are able to return to their extended family when they reach 18.
In January 2017, 2 Youth Houses were opened to accommodate these young people until they have completed their education and are better equipped to manage on their own. Both houses have a resident youth worker.

Boys’ House

Both houses have plenty of outdoor space for the young people to grow vegetables.
